The goal of CCES is to better connect PLU and the community. The list below includes local favorites and hot spots to consider checking out. If you have favorite local activity, hang out, or know of good eats near by, let us know!

No car? No problem!

Don’t have a car? Pierce Transit can get you around town. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • Your starting address
  • The address of your destination
  • The day of the week you wish to travel
  • The time of day you wish to leave your starting address or arrive at your destination

Visit the Pierce Transit website and use the Trip Planner to plan your route and for helpful tips on service offerings. Take note, the schedules are often different for weekdays and weekends.

Pierce Transit offers several payment methods.

  • Cash-Make sure you have the exact fare, as they do not give change.
  • All Day Pass-Your pass will have an expiration date and time printed on the back.
  • Pierce Pay-Download the free app to purchase one-time rider and all day passes from your phone.
  • ORCA Card- If you plan on riding the bus regularly, consider this option. Different plans are available or you can load money on the card as you need.

Paradise Lanes Bowling (0.4 miles)

Bresemann Forest (1.1 miles)

8th Ave Ct S, Spanaway, WA 98444

This naturally wooded site is approximately 70 acres with a system of pedestrian nature trails. The beautiful and secluded walking trail may have users thinking they are miles from the city as they stroll along Morey Creek. Spanaway Creek is  a small stream the also runs through Breesemann Forest from Spanaway Lake and is part of the Clover Creek watershed.

Sprinker Recreation Center (1.8 miles)

Includes an ice arena, ice bumper cars, indoor tennis, racquetball, and wallyball courts. The outdoor facilities include ball fields, a skateboard park, horseshoe pits, pickle-ball and basketball courts, and a practice mountain climbing rock.

Parkland Putters (2.2 miles)

Four putt-putt golf courses to choose from, ranging from easy to hard… Pick one or play them all! Grab your friends and go have some mini golf fun!

Spanaway Lake Park (2.2 miles)

14905 Bresemann Blvd. S, Spanaway, WA 98387

This 135-acre park along Spanaway Lake offers many year-round activities. Everything from aquatic recreation opportunities to a new picnic area by the south swimming beach and a new three mile trail system by Little Spanaway Lake. The park also features softball fields, basketball courts, new children’s play area and walking trails along several thousand feet of waterfront.

LeMay Marymount Car Collection (2.5 miles)

325 152nd St E, Tacoma, WA 98445

Originally opened as “Marymount Military Academy,” today the grounds are home of the LeMay Collections at Marymount. With the goal of preserving and maintaining America’s artifacts for future generations, Marymount offers access to over 1,500 vintage vehicles, a variety of Americana memorabilia, a Rodin sculpture garden, and more.

Tacoma Museums (7.5 miles)

Museum of Glass  (1801 Dock St, Tacoma, WA 98402)

A premier contemporary art museum dedicated to glass and glass-making in the West Coast’s largest and most active museum glass studio. Initially, the Museum focused exclusively on local artist and global glass icon Dale Chihuly, but now includes works in glass by artists worldwide.

Washington State History Museum (1911 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402)

Explore and be entertained in an environment where characters from Washington’s past speak about their lives. Through interactive exhibits based on the Historical Society’s collections, traveling exhibitions, and dramatic artifacts, learn about our state’s unique people and places, as well as their impact on the country and the world.

Tacoma Art Museum (TAM)  (1701 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402)

An anchor in the city’s downtown area and a gathering place for connecting people through art via thoughtful exhibitions, exciting events, and enriching programs. The museum’s collection of more than 5,000 works emphasizes the art and artists of the Northwest and broader western region.

LeMay America’s Car Museum  (2702 E D St, Tacoma, WA 98421)

An international destination for families and auto enthusiasts to celebrate America’s love affair with the automobile and learn how it shaped our society. ACM serves as an educational center for students of all ages, features 12 rotating exhibits and hosts America’s Automotive Trust’s annual Signature Events.

Tacoma Art Walk (7.5 miles)

Downtown Tacoma and on 6th Ave

Free on the Third Thursday of every month from 5-9 p.m. Venues vary, check out Tacoma Art Walk on Facebook for the month’s venues. 

Alma Mater (7.6 miles)

Dorky's Arcade (8.1 miles)

Old school arcade and pinball games, so bring your quarters (or exchange bills at their change machine). They also have pizza and drinks available to top off the arcade experience. All are welcome until 9 p.m., 21+ from 9 p.m. to close. More information on their website.

The Grand Cinema (8.1 miles)

Student Admission $9.00. Free Family Movies on the Third Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. and ages 13-19 can sign up for a free teentix pass at teentix.org and obtain movie tickets and more for $5. Click here for the latest showtimes.

Chambers Bay Park and Golf Course (10.4 miles)

Offering panoramic views of the bay, the Chambers Bay loop combines the Grandview Trail with the Soundview Trail to make 3.25 miles with some serious incline. Walk around the golf course at Chambers Creek Regional Park, and enjoy views of Chambers Bay and the vivid green grasses of the golf course.

Cheney Stadium (11.5 miles)

Cheney Stadium is home to three professional level teams.

Tacoma RainiersMinor League Baseball team, which serves as the reserve and feeder team for the Seattle Mariners.

Reign F.C. – Professional women’s soccer team that competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Home team of World Cup Champion, Megan Rapinoe.  

Tacoma DefianceUSL Championship League men’s soccer team, previously known as the Seattle Sounders FC 2. The team serves as a reserve and feeder team for the Seattle Sounders FC.

Ruston Way (13.0 miles)

Take a walk along 2 miles of Commencement Bay waterfront, have a picnic at the beach, checkout the evolving shopping, treats, and eats at Point Ruston, or rent a bike and enjoy the 5 mile loop. 

Point Defiance Park/ Zoo and Aquarium (16.5 miles)

Point Defiance is a 760 acre park, making it the second largest city owned park in the nation–only Central Park is larger. See PNW wildlife on the trails, wander through beautiful gardens, make use of the tennis courts, or make your way down to Owen Beach.

Also check out the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium to get an up close view of some of nature’s most magnificent animals and marine life.
