Our Senator of the Week is Carlos Alvarez! Carlos is an At-Large Senator and is from Lakewood, WA. Why did you join ASPLU? "I joined ASPLU because I wanted to make a greater impact on the PLU campus. I want to represent my identities and complexity, knowing that there are others like me as well. I joined to help have productive and positive relations with both students and faculty and staff members. I want to focus on making change in campus surrounding the very critical ideas of Diversity, Social Justice, and Sustainability." What are you currently working on? Carlos has done many great things as an ASPLU senator. Right now, Carlos is putting together a college readiness workshop for high school students at PLU! The event will include an admission tour, followed by time with college students working on college application essays, personal statements, and financial aid. When you see Carlos around on campus ask him about ASPLU!

The #ThatsNotLove campaign works to shine a spotlight on unhealthy or emotionally abusive relationship behaviors—or the gray area between love and control. If you see one of these behaviors in your relationships or your friends’ relationships, don’t hesitate to say, “That’s Not Love!” #that'snotlove @join1love
"Because I Love You” is such a simple phrase that can take on a different meaning in an unhealthy relationship; escalating from a statement of care to one of control. In a violent or abusive relationship, control statements like “Because I Love You” are often used in a pattern of put-downs or mind games that are meant to gain power over you, leave you feeling fearful or like everything’s your fault. @join1love #that'snotlove
