Response about LollaPLUza from PLU’s Office for Student Engagement

LollaPLUza is Pacific Lutheran University’s Spring music festival  hosted by the Student Activities Board (SAB). This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on the PLU Golf Course.

Upon announcement of the artist lineup on Friday, April 13, members of the campus community expressed concern that the three featured artists are cisgender white males. In response, the Office for Student Engagement forwarded an apology to all students on April 20, 2018 and created a student advisory committee to collaboratively advise decisions regarding next steps for LollaPLUza 2018 in partnership with SAB and Student Engagement. The committee met on April 30, 2018 and recommended the following changes to LollaPLUza (LollaPLUza Advisory Committee Notes):

  • Retain headliner Sam Lachow but cancel the two supporting artists in favor of adding PLU student bands and performers
  • Hire LASR DJs to play a variety of diverse genres and artists in between live performances
  • Create student employment positions for additional support needed to implement the event during the week of May 7-13, 2018
