Who are we?
Mortar Board National Honor Society was founded in 1918 originally as a women’s college senior honor society, with four founding chapters at Cornell University, University of Michigan, Ohio State University and Swarthmore College. Since then, Mortar Board has become 231 chapters strong, with PLU’s Black and Gold chapter as the newest addition in 2014. From then until now, Mortar Board seeks to distinguish individuals who excel in scholarship, service, and leadership.
PLU’s Black & Gold chapter of Mortar Board seeks to uphold the society’s ideals of scholarship, service, and leadership by collaborating with other leaders at PLU to become one of the most influential and active student organizations on campus. We give back to the university and faculty that have assisted us during our college journey, and we promote literacy, community service, and gender equality through service to our alma mater.
