PLU Course Equivalency

Pacific Lutheran University awards all credits earned in this program. Semester-long study away programs fulfill PLU’s Cross Cultural Diversity requirement.

Study Tours

In addition to independent travel, the program includes lots of opportunities for meaningful exploration in South Korea. Depending on the semester, the program may take students to:

  • Hwaomsa Temple
  • Mt. Jirisan
  • Hahoe Village in Andong
  • The Demilitarized Zone

Housing

Students are able to choose which style of housing they would like to stay in during their semester away.

Residence Hall

Students may choose to live in at the SK Global House, a residence hall on the Yonsei University Campus. In the hall, students will have one other roommate and a private bathroom to share between the two of them. Each floor has a study room, lounge, and seminar room. There is also a kitchen, laundry facilities, fitness center, computer room, and music practice room shared by all residence in the hall.

Homestay

Students may also choose to stay with a host family. Students will have their own room and share a bathroom, laundry facilities, and kitchen. Families generally live between 40 and 80 minutes away from the university. Internet access will be provided as well as breakfast and dinner daily.

Stay with Relatives

If students have relatives that live in Seoul, they can request to opt out of the CIEE-provided housing and stay with their relatives.

Program Fee

The PLU comprehensive fee for Fall semester covers this academic experience (instruction and academic credit, housing, most meals (included in homestay), study tours, study abroad insurance, visa fees, laundry, and a $750 flight credit). To find the current comprehensive fee for one semester, divide the total full-year cost listed on the Admissions website by two. Please note that the comprehensive fee varies each year, and the cost of this program will be based on the year in which you study away. Financial aid applies.

Out-of-pocket Expenses

Some air travel, personal excursions, and other miscellaneous expenses are not included in program cost.

Global Scholar Award

All PLU Gateway & Featured Programs are Global Scholar Award eligible. This need-based award can cover out-of-pocket expenses up to $2,500 on PLU Gateway and Featured semester programs. For non-PLU students, please check with your home institution or sponsoring study abroad organization on program cost.

Prerequisites

Sophomore, junior, or senior standing. Students must have a minimum 2.7 G.P.A. Must be a student in good standing.

Application Deadline

Fall and Full Year applications are due March 15

Spring applications are due May 1

A $50 non-refundable fee is due with the application. A $300 non-refundable program payment to confirm participation is required within 10 days of acceptance.

NOTE: Each academic year the current application is made available during International Education Week in November.
