Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is the fifth oldest university in the English-speaking world. Situated in the stunning historic neighbourhood of Old Aberdeen, the University is today known as a centre of excellence in the Humanities, Law, Energy, Health Sciences and Environmental Studies.
The University has welcomed visiting students for over four decades and has a dedicated team to assist you through the entire process, from the initial application, through to registering for classes and orientation.
Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or Full Year
With over 70 undergraduate majors on offer across three colleges, you will find a great choice of classes to take at Aberdeen and will be able to tailor your selection to suit your individual requirements.
Most semester courses are 15 credits, which equates to 3-4 US credit hours. The normal course load is therefore 60 credits per semester, or approximately 15 US credit hours. Study Abroad students are examined alongside full-time degree-seeking students. Most classes are examined through a combination of continuous assessment, mid-term assignments and an end of semester examination.
Subject/course restrictions: Clinical Medicine Courses, Education Courses, Level 4 English Courses, BM 4501 – Biomedical Science Honors Project, Environmental Field Courses – places are limited so students will only be able to enroll if the course is mandatory for her/his degree

Students live at the Hillhead Student Village or another student residence located near the King’s College Campus. Study Abroad students are integrated in to the halls with other University of Aberdeen students, so you will have the opportunity to meet local students as well as other international students.
Accommodations range from residence hall rooms to apartment-style housing. Amenities depend on each residence but generally include a single bedroom with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The PLU comprehensive fee covers this academic experience (instruction and academic credit, housing, a meal stipend, study abroad insurance, visa fees*, and a $750 flight credit). To find the current comprehensive fee for one semester, divide the total full-year cost listed on the Admissions website by two. Please note that the comprehensive fee varies each year, and the cost of this program will be based on the year in which you study away. Financial aid applies.
*The Wang Center will reimburse you for your visa fees up to $300; such fees can include: visa processing fees, consulate fees, online application fees. Reimbursement does not include: domestic travel costs for in-person submission, postage costs.
Some air travel, books/supplies, personal excursions, domestic travel*/postage for visa processing, and other miscellaneous expenses are not included in program cost.
*Be sure to research your visa requirements as you may have to go in-person to a consulate or visa processing center. Depending on the country, there may or may not be a local consulate, and you may have to fly to another US state.
Global Scholar Award
All PLU Gateway & Featured Programs are Global Scholar Award eligible. This need-based award can cover out-of-pocket expenses up to $2,500 on PLU Gateway and Featured semester programs. For non-PLU students, please check with your home institution or sponsoring study abroad organization on program cost.

A $50 non-refundable fee is due with the application. A $300 non-refundable program payment to confirm participation is required within 10 days of acceptance.
NOTE: Each academic year the current application is made available during International Education Week in November.
Applicants must also complete the University of Aberdeen application.
