Information on presentation: The City of Tacoma and the Municipality of George, South Africa recently celebrated 20 years as Sisters under the umbrella of Sister Cities International Inc. SCI is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between U.S. and international communities, promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation – one individual, one community at a time. Melannie Denise Cunningham is chair of the Tacoma-George Sister City Committee and led a delegation of 15 women to South Africa this past summer to commemorate and celebrate this important milestone.

Title: K-12 funding changes – It affects all of us

Information on presentation: In response to the Supreme Court’s McCleary decision on the inadequacy of public school funding, the 2017 Legislature enacted a seismic shift in the k-12 funding structure including salaries and staffing, local levies, health care and collective bargaining, which will have immediate and long term consequences for Washington’s students and educators. Come hear the unfolding story.
