Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

Riley Dolan and Lottie Duren were two of twenty-five students nationwide to receive Study Abroad Grants through the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society during the Session B awards cycle this year. These grants are awarded to students with a GPA of 3.75 and above who wish to seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying away. University of Auckland & Diversity Abroad Scholarship

Taylor Maruno (’20) was awarded the University of Auckland & Diversity Abroad scholarship for her semester in New Zealand this spring. In the most recent Open Doors study published by the Institute of International Education, PLU ranked #9 amongst US Master’s Institutions for undergraduate participation in study abroad.

Included among the delegation of Namibian dignitaries touring the Pacific Lutheran University campus last week was a proud alumnus, Edwin Tjiramba, who delighted in sharing his fond memories of PLU. Read more.

Global Washington is a non-profit, membership based organization committed to strengthening the global development sector of Washington State. In the past year, Global Washington began to explore the importance of global education, specifically for Washington students, and discovered the significance of global understanding in today’s world. The Global Education Initiative, a subcommittee of Global WA, recently released a report outlining the state of global education in Washington, providing a rationale for global education, highlighting best practices, and presenting recommendations for improvement. PLU Study Away Alumni often continue their involvement in global education after their time away. Read about Sara Stuart, an alum of the Granada Program and a former Sojourner Advocate, teaching ESL classes in Everett through Goodwill and the YMCA.

Mural in Trinidad

PLU’s Chris Jordan painted a fantastic mural at a local boys’ school while studying away in Trinidad & Tobago during Spring semester 2014.
