Gary Downing

Gary Downing passed away at age 75 on Jan. 2, 2023, in Portland, Ore. After graduating from PLU, he married his high school sweetheart, Patti, and served as a Navy Radioman for four years. Gary chose a career in banking, beginning by opening a branch of Benjamin Franklin Savings and Loan in La Grande, Ore. and retiring from U.S. Bank in 2014. He had a beautiful singing voice and a talent with the baritone horn, was a thoughtful leader at his church, and delighted in time spent with his wife and two daughters. Throughout his life, Gary was a trusted advisor and friend known for his wisdom, gentle presence, and big heart.
