Nancy was raised in Salem, Ore., and moved to Juneau in 1965, where she graduated from JDHS in 1966. She went on to college at Pacific Lutheran University, where she met the love of her life, Michael. Mike and Nancy were married on Sept. 7, 1968, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Juneau; Nancy’s father, Pastor Glenn Sachs, officiated the service. Nancy worked for the Sports Fish Division of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game until 1975. From 1975 to 1990, Nancy was a stay-at-home mother and was heavily involved in her children’s activities. She returned to work in 1990 at H&R Block and started working for the Alaska State Legislature in 1999 as an Assistant Chief Clerk for the House of Representatives. Nancy formally retired from the State in 2014 but continued to work through April 2015.

Nancy was a frequent volunteer in her children’s classrooms and supported her children in sports, drama, music, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and served on the Church Council. Nancy was the mother of four children but was called mom by many, many more. Nancy had the biggest heart and was compassionate to all.
