Richard Seymour ’81 died Jan. 3, 2015.

Major Richard “Sherman” Seymour (USAR Ret.), 76, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.

He was born May 14, 1938, in Wichita, Kans., the son of Sherman “August” and Charlotte “Emma” (Buell) Seymour. He was a 1957 graduate of Dodge City High School and later achieved a Master’s Degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He served as a nurse during Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart and later served in Desert Storm, retiring after 27 years of service.

Sherman was a Nursing Professor with Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, Kans., and taught LPN and CNA at KAW Area Tech in Topeka. He also was employed by the Topeka VA Hospital.

He was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, Phillip Billard Post No. 1650 of the VFW and Purple Heart Organization in Topeka.

Sherman married Virginia Williamson in 1959. She preceded him in death in 1995. He married Marian R. Stovall on July 1, 1996, in Auburn, Kans. She survives. Other survivors include four children, Debbie (Gil) Barnett, Keller, Texas; David (Mary Kay) Seymour, Topeka; Dan (Stephanie) Seymour, Ft. Worth, Texas; and Diana (Scott) Stauffer, Avondale, Ariz.; two stepchildren, Kyle Ohlsen, Topeka; and Sarah (Billy) Wall, Topeka; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins; and an aunt.
