Eileen Toth ’09 died Oct. 18.

Toth died Oct. 18 after a brave fight with metastatic breast cancer. Eileen was born on Oct. 18, 1946, in Phillipsburg, N.J. to Lester J. and Rose T. Toth. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1964 and was the class valedictorian. She then attended Ursinus College in Collegeville, Penn., where she studied pre-medicine and graduated with honors. She was one of the first women to attend Harvard Medical School, where she graduated with honors in 1972. After working on the East Coast for a few years, she moved to Vashon, Wash., where she met and married Pat Murto, started her own practice and raised her family. Some of Eileen’s many accomplishments include becoming the first female president of the Pierce County Medical Society, leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop for many years and attending Pacific Lutheran University after her retirement to study anthropology and religion. She also selflessly entered a study at the University of Washington Medicine in hopes that future generations would benefit from the research done on her specific type of cancer. Eileen is survived by her daughters Amy Atkinson (Colin) and Katherine Murto (Justin) and brothers Thomas Toth (Dorothy) and Richard Toth (Susan). Eileen was also blessed to have six grandchildren: Isabella, Sophia, Ava, Olivia, Theodore and Franklin. Eileen is also survived by her husband, Hari Alipuria, her partner of 15 years, whom she had the joy to marry this past March. Eileen is preceded in death by her loving late husband, Patrick Murto, who lost his battle with cancer in 1998.
