Karel Hull ’85 died Jan. 30.

Hull died Jan. 30 after a courageous four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Peoria, Ill., in 1947 to Robert and Greta Simmons. Karel graduated from Glacier High School in 1965 and then married her high-school sweetheart, George Hull, in 1966. She spent the next 20 years raising her two sons and then pursued her dream of getting a college degree. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor of business administration from Pacific Lutheran University in 1985 and earned a master of science in taxation from Golden Gate University in 1994. Karel was a certified public accountant and tax manager for Moss Adams and other Big Four firms until she formed her own firm, Hull and Associates, in 2003. She was a member of Meridian Valley Country Club for nearly 40 years, where she organized evening and Saturday golfing groups to encourage working women to participate in the game. Karel was extremely proud of her three holes-in-one; two of them occurred after she was diagnosed with cancer. She served on the Board of Directors at Childhaven and was the Treasurer of the Washington Junior Golf Foundation. Karel was a dedicated wife and mother who loved to work hard, laugh often and endlessly entertain her many friends. She loved to travel to the wine country and Hawaii as often as possible. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Karel leaves behind her loving husband, George; sons Greg and Garrick; sisters Christine Simmons and Cathy Jo Merrill (Gary); nieces, nephews, friends; and dog, Little Buddy. Her family would like to thank Dr. Gabriela Chiorean of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Dr. Sam Whiting for their care and loving dedication.
