May 7, 2014

Edna (Dagsland) Haneberg died December 11, 2013.

She worked and borrowed money from relatives so she could attend PLC. She taught in East Stanwood, Wash., for three years. She accepted a job teaching all eight grades at Bull Run Grade School in 1943. After dating a neighbor, Melvin Haneberg, they got engaged, and he went into the Army. She and Melvin married on Feb. 17, 1945. They returned to the Haneberg farm in Bull Run; raised berries; cared for Melvin’s mother; and had three children, Ann Marie, Lloyd and Carolyn. Edna substituted and volunteered in her community and church until she returned to full-time teaching in first grade at Sandy Grade in 1963. They both retired in 1974 and enjoyed their beach cabin in Rockaway and community service. She is survived by her brother, Melvin Dagsland; children Ann Marie Amstad, Lloyd Haneberg and Carolyn Baxter; seven grandchildren, including Doug Baxter ’03; and 11 great-grandchildren.
