Our HistoryThe University Scholars Association was founded in 1972 by Dr. Curtis Huber (philosophy), Dr. William Hutcheon (business), Charles Nelson (registrar), Dr. Richard Jungkuntz (provost), and Dr. Tony Lauer (business).  The association purchased a house located across the street from PLU.  The homeowner they bought it from was a PLU faculty member, Cap Jacobs (physics). Bringing the Past to Life in the PresentIn September of 2019, the SCC opened a new exhibit “Living History and Nordic Identity: Bringing the Past to Life in the Present” based on KD Williams’ capstone project for her BA in Scandinavian Area Studies, which Dr. Schroeder supervised. Historical study examines and attempts to explain processes of change over time as they pertain to cultures, nations, institutions, value systems, and other major social phenomena. As an institution founded on the tenets of Lutheran Higher Education, the University encourages its student organizations to contribute to the role of the University as a forum for intellectual discussion, diversity of thought, debate, investigation, and/or artistic expression.
