PLU is participating in Operation Pine Cone, a Pierce County exercise that is a sub-component of the regional Evergreen Functional Exercise involving a number of Pacific Northwest States and Canada. PLU is one of about 50 Pierce County agencies participating.
PLU will participate on Tuesday, June 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The premise is that the region has experienced a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on June 4 at 8 a.m. It is now 24 hours after the earthquake. How will PLU communicate with local responders, house its students, provide medical aid, rescue people trapped in buildings and maintain safety given a severely damaged built environment?
This should prove to be an exciting and lesson-filled exercise that you don't want to miss! Come practice your response skills or volunteer to be a person in need of rescue. Contact Jennifer at 538-6042 to participate.
