Maylen Anthony is a junior Hinderlite at PLU from Fairmont, MN. She is a Women's and Gender Studies/Hispanic Studies double major with a Global Studies minor. She studied away in Granada, Spain last spring and had an amazing time! When she is not in class, working, or studying, Maylen enjoys drinking tea, watching British television, spending time at NPCC, and hanging out with her friends.
Maylen's dream travel destination is the Italian countryside. After watching the movie Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts, Maylen fell in love with Italy, its language, and its people. She loves the pace of life-- a much slower, happier alternative to the hustle and bustle of American society. Plus, who wouldn't want to eat Italian food every day?

Maylen's most memorable journey was when she took a J-term class called Makah Culture: Past and Present this past year. For half of the month of January, Maylen and fourteen other PLU students  were right in the epicenter of Makah culture: the Makah reservation at Neah Bay, WA. The Makah are some of the most caring and generous people she has ever met, and the class had a chance to repay their kindness through service projects and community work. Her professor had also built an extremely strong relationship with the Makah people over the past 30 years, so the class got a true community welcome and experience. Maylen was able to be a part of something bigger than herself, and learn about the native culture of her own country, which is an experience she will never forget.
