Application Timeline

IMPORTANT: Application portal through NursingCAS will be open on August 25th, 2016 for the Summer 2017-2018 DNP cohort. 

SUMMER START–December 1 is the priority application deadline for BSN to DNP or post-master’s candidates wishing to start in the summer term (this is the only option for BSN to DNP candidates).

J-TERM OR SPRING START–November 1 is the application deadline for post-master’s candidates (J-term/spring start is only available to post-master’s candidates)

DNP candidates may apply for admission at any time during the year, however, application by the priority deadline will enhance applicants’ potential for admission and for arranging financial assistance. Applications are not reviewed until after the application deadline, and decisions are typically made from February through April. Applications received after the priority deadline may be accepted on a space-available basis.

How to apply

Step one – create your application portal account and enter your letter of recommendation details.

Create your application portal account, enter in your letter of recommendation details,  and pay the nonrefundable $55 application fee via our application portal.

Enter two references via the online application portal. This will send an email notification to your recommenders to follow a link and submit their letters of recommendation. References may be academic or professional. Visit our FAQs page for a list of questions that recommenders will see on the form.

Step two – submit all required supporting items below

Official transcripts: Have official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended sent to Graduate Studies (PLU graduates do not need to send their PLU transcripts). We accept and prefer electronic delivery of official transcripts. Have them sent to If the college or university does not offer electronic delivery, please have them mail your transcripts to:

Students applying with degrees from institutions outside the US must submit a course-by-course evaluation for US degree equivalency by a PLU approved evaluation service. Two approved providers are Foreign Credential Translation and Evaluation Services (FIS) and World Education Services (WES).

GRE scores: Have scores sent to PLU directly from the testing institution. Our institution code is 4597.

Resume: Upload your resume via the online application portal that includes your employment history; significant academic, professional, and community achievements; honors and awards. You can also submit this later via the application portal by logging in and clicking on the “checklist” button.

Statement of  Goals : Upload your statement via the online application portal. You can also submit this later via the application portal by logging in and clicking on the “checklist” button. The statement should not exceed four double-spaced pages. Please reference your name on each page. You should include the following information in your statement:

  • BSN to DNP applicants:  How will becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner meet your career goals? What knowledge do you have of the NP role you are applying for? Have you had any experience with the role and what aspects of the role appeal to you professionally?
  • MSN to DNP applicants:  How will the Doctor of Nursing Practice meet your career goals?

Nursing Addenda: Submit the Online School of Nursing Graduate Application Addenda Packet. It can be saved and worked on or done all at once.

The following checklist items are a part of the DNP Addenda Packet:

  • Questions Relative to Licensure form
  • Educational Background and Transfer Credit Policy form with required attachments
  • Policy/Procedures Regarding English Proficiency form
  • Essential Qualifications for Participation in School of Nursing Degree Programs acknowledgement
  • Post-master’s candidates only:  verification of clinical practicum hours form

WA State Background Check &  $15 Cashiers or Money Order: Download, sign, and send by mail the WA State Patrol Disclosure Affidavit and WA State Patrol Background Check, along with a $15.00 cashiers check or money order to:

Step three – check what items have been received and what is missing via the application portal.

The portal will indicate when your application is complete. Your admission decision will be sent via email, not via the portal.

In addition to the above listed application requirements, international students must :

Send official TOEFL or IELTS score report directly to PLU from ETS or the British Council. Score requirements can be found here.

Submit a copy of your Passport picture page

In order to be sent a form I-20, admitted international students must:

  • Pay the enrollment deposit
  • Submit the Declaration of Finance form and Proof of financial support
