New Student Registration: Charting Your Course

All incoming first-year students will meet with a Registration Counselor to register for Fall 2013 classes. These meetings provide an opportunity for students to discuss course selection, interest areas and academic preparation.

Step 1: Complete three eligibility steps

Step 2

Request a New Student Registration Appointment.                                                                                                                                       An email will be sent to your PLU email account confirming your New Student Registration date and time within one week fo completing the online form.

Step 3

Take the Math Placement Evaluation.
Please complete the Math Placement Evaluation at least two weeks prior to your registration appointment to allow for scoring. All students are required to take the Math Placement Evaluation.  Please record the date that you completed the evaluation on the Registration Worksheet (page 12 of the First Year Guidebook).

Step 4

Take the Foreign Language Placement Exam.
If you took German, Spanish, or French in high school and plan to continue at PLU, please take the placement exam. Results are immediate, so please record your placement on the Registration Worksheet (page 12 of the First Year Guidebook).

Step 5

Complete the Community Standards Module

UPDATE:  The Community Standards Module is a dynamic module that covers important policies and skills for new students to PLU. This module is mandatory and required for all new students to PLU. On August 1, 2013 instructions on how to complete the module and the due date will be sent to your PLU e-mail address. We thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please contact conduct@plu.edu.

Step 6

Read the First Year Guidebook. View the online class schedule to explore Fall 2013 course offerings. Write down ideas and questions as you complete the Registration Worksheet (page 12 of the First Year Guidebook).

Step 7

Bring your First Year Guidebook, Registration Worksheet (page 12 of the First Year Guidebook), and ideas to your registration appointment.

If you have any questions, please call the Academic Advising Office at (253) 535-7459.

First-Year Course Load

Most students take 12-16 credit hours during their first semester. A typical schedule includes three "solids" (4 credit courses) and a 1 credit class (e.g. PE, Career & Educational Planning, or Study Skills). Some science classes have a lab component which will require additional time outside of class.
