New Transfer of Credit Policy:

The new Transfer of Credit policy has gone into effect beginning Fall 2008. Two key changes for students are as follows:

  • Transfer courses must be a minimum of three semester hours to fulfill a PLU four-hour general university requirement (GUR). This means that four-quarter hour courses will not fulfill four-hour GURs as they convert to only 2.67 semester hours.

  • The Pacific Lutheran University grade point average reflects PLU work only. A student's grade point average cannot be improved by repeating a course elsewhere. If a student wishes to repeat a PLU course for a better grade, the course must be repeated at PLU.
To review the new Transfer of Credit policy in its entirety, see page 23 in the 2008-09 catalog.

When transferring courses from an institution that operates on a Quarter Hour system (all Washington Community Colleges, UW, etc) the credits transfer into PLU's Semester Hours system as follows:

Quarter Hours

6 quarter hours
4 semester hours
5 quarter hours
