How do I cite a quote when I don't have access to the original source?
This usually happens when you find a quotation in a source that you're using, and can't get access to the quotation's original source. It is referred to as citing an indirect source.
In general, you need to indicate that the source for your quotation isn't that quotation's original context. Most style guides have a way of doing this; consult an online or print style guide for information and examples, or ask a librarian for help.
