Biography:

Seth Dowland teaches courses on American church history, Islam in America, religion and politics, and religion and gender. He approaches the study of religion historically, seeking to understand how traditions have evolved over time in response to political and cultural phenomena. His research focuses on the intersection of religion, gender, and American politics in the twentieth century. His book Family Values: Gender, Authority, and the Rise of the Christian Right is forthcoming from the University of Pennsylvania Press.
