Health Insurance & Medical Information

Health Insurance

If you have been recruited by Study Group agents, you will be automatically enrolled to Study Care insurance offered through Study Group.

All other International Students are automatically enrolled to PLU International Student Health Insurance. The cost for the PLU plan will be billed directly to your student account.

Whether you carry the Study Care Insurance or PLU International Student Health Insurance, PLU Health Center will be your primary care office where you can go for any health concerns. The Health Center is located on campus and houses a very friendly, knowledgeable staff.

How to Waive Student Insurance

If you would like to waive-out from PLU International Student Health Insurance, the PLU International Student Insurance Plan waiver form must be received by the PLU Finance & Operations Office by an established deadline (normally the 10th day of classes). Your primarily insurance coverage needs to be equivalent or better than PLU International Student Health Insurance. Delayed communication should be expected especially involving your insurance company, so act NOW! To access the waiver form, visit the International Student Health Insurance page on Finance and Operations website.

Medical History/Immunization Requirement

Please be sure to submit Medical Record History form to the Health Center prior to your arrival.

Depending on your immunization record, new students may be asked to receive immunizations shots during orientation at the Health Center. Each MMR shot costs $15 and PPD shot costs $20.

If you have been a resident of one of the following countries, PPD are waived: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and Wales.

If your PPD record is positive, you will need to go get a chest X-ray at an off-campus clinic. Your insurance should cover this cost.

Please do NOT take any immunization shots before arrival. PLU cannot accept result of PPD or X-ray taken outside of the US.

Although the Health Center can help any student with health concerns or questions, it is recommended that you take care of any dental and eye visits in your home country prior to arrival to PLU.
