The Department of Sociology emphasizes research, interpretation, and analysis.

Sociology examines such topics as human relationships and experience, contemporary family life and family policies, ethnic diversity and race relations, poverty and social stratification, social justice, and community organization.  With courses on crime and society, deviance, and juvenile justice, sociology is the ideal major for students interested in criminal justice-related careers.

Regardless of the topic, sociology courses encourage hands-on learning through data collection and analysis, field placements, internships, and service-learning projects.

Students may major or minor in sociology.
