School of Business
Business Education has always been an important aspect of the program at Pacific Lutheran University. In 1898, the year of the first graduation, the institution changed its name to Pacific Lutheran Academy and Business College to best reflect the schools focus. The first graduation consisted of two female students, one graduated from the Academy and the other from the Business College.
Throughout the history of Pacific Lutheran University, the business programs at PLU have remained of the best quality. The School of Business at PLU received accreditation by the AACSB in 1971, joining the ranks of business programs at Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Boston University, and 140 of the finest programs of business education in the world. The School of Business has remained continuously accredited since 1971.
The Business School offers three types of degrees Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and Masters of Science. Our BBA offers four concentrations, Accounting, Finance, Management and Human Resources, and Marketing. The MBA offers areas of emphasis in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Management, Health Care Management and Technology and Innovation Management. The Masters of Science is offered in Finance (MSF). The School of Business also provides a Minor in Business and Nonprofit Leadership Minor for both business and nonbusiness majors. Additionally, we offer a Certificate in Accounting to prepare individuals for the CPA exam.
A strong Executive Advisory Board provides insight and support from the business community to ensure our students are prepared for careers in business (both for profit and not for profit organizations). The EAB was established to provide guidance, support and assistance to the School of Business in fulfilling the School’s mission.
The faculty members at PLU are qualified with doctorate degrees and typically have previous business experience. The small class sizes and flexibility of the program allows students to develop a meaningful, personal experience. PLU offers students the opportunity to study abroad, gain internship experience and participate in meaningful service projects.
