Thank you for supporting Lute Men's Soccer!

Q&A with Coach John Yorke

What are some highlights of this year that shows your team succeeding, facing a challenge, and supporting each other?
Highlight of the year was hosting and winning the first ever NCAA Men’s Soccer National Tournament game. We beat Trinity who was ranked #2 in the nation in Extra time penalty kicks on a comeback win after falling behind 1-0.

What makes your student-athletes special? What makes you feel most proud of your team?
We have a group of approximately 40 young men who are excelling in athletics, academics, and community. I am proud of how they approach the challenges of being a student athlete on a daily basis and are able to be productive contributors to their greater community.

How did your team engage with the community this year?
All of our players participated in community service through a free youth clinic sponsored by the athletic department for kids in our community or working with Special Olympics and other various organizations.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for next year?
We are excited for the chance to build on a very special 2021 season and challenge ourselves to be even better students, athletes, and people. We are really excited about traveling to Ireland and Scotland in August to play soccer and gain an awesome cultural experience.

“PLU men’s soccer has helped me become more aware of how my actions can affect a whole lot of people. It’s given me the opportunity to step up in moments I otherwise wouldn’t have.”
