Biography

Dr. Emre Ulusoy is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington,
USA. He joined PLU in 2022. He earned his PhD in Marketing from the University of Texas – Rio Grande
Valley in 2013. Prior to joining PLU, he worked as an Assistant Professor for five years and as an
Associate Professor for four years at Youngstown State University.

Dr. Emre Ulusoy has taught a variety of marketing and business courses at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels. He is interested in teaching both in-class and online courses and he is well suited to
teach a diverse set of marketing classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is primarily
interested in teaching Consumer Behavior, Principles of Marketing, Marketing Research and Analytics,
Qualitative Marketing Research, Marketing Strategy, Digital Marketing, and Marketing Communication.

Dr. Emre Ulusoy is primarily interested in sociocultural, philosophical, ethical, ecological, and critical
issues as they relate to the phenomena of consumption, marketing, and the market institution. Hence,
his research integrates consumer behavior, consumer culture theory, sociology of consumption, cultural
studies, critical marketing, poststructuralism, and macromarketing to generate theoretical, managerial,
and social insights toward a healthy, fair, and sustainable future. More specifically, sub-areas of interest
cover studies of subcultural consumption, music/art consumption, market co-optation, cultural
fragmentation, consumer resistance, consumer/brand activism, identity projects, sustainability, ethical
consumption, social innovation, alternative food consumption and technologies, and veganism. Also, he
seeks to keep his research interest as eclectic as possible where topics range from marketing strategy to
electronic marketing.

As a result, he has published numerous articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of
Business Research, Marketing Theory, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Consumer Culture,
and Consumption, Markets & Culture. Also, he has presented over 30 research projects at the most
prestigious marketing conferences, including the Association for Consumer Research, American
Marketing Association, Academy of Marketing Science, Macromarketing, and Transformative Consumer
Research, with some of them appearing in conference proceedings. Moreover, he received several
research-related awards such as Distinguished Professor of Scholarship, Research Professorship, and the
University Research Council Research Grant. Last but not least, Dr. Emre Ulusoy serves as an ad hoc
reviewer for several academic journals and conferences.
