The Center for Community Engagement and Service (formerly known as the Center for Public Service) fosters a culture of community engagement among students, faculty and staff through reflective community-engaged scholarship, meaningful co-curricular service and mutually beneficial community partnerships.
The Center advances the university’s mission to: Educate students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care for other persons, for the community, and for the earth. The Center celebrates reflective community engagement and service as a transformative source of learning and development in our common vocation as citizens of our community.
The Center for Community Engagement and Service facilitates, supports and celebrates student, staff and faculty engagement in the local community's needs and opportunities. We see the community as a great source of wisdom in student learning and attempt to steward the gifts and resources of PLU to strengthen the Parkland and Tacoma community. Among the Center's many functions, we directly administer three programs:
Service-Learning
Volunteer Center
Community Work Study
