Background and Eligibility

The PLU Presidential Scholarships recognize academic, co-curricular and leadership achievement in the incoming freshman class. From the scholarship applicant pool, PLU selects students who demonstrate the most potential for affecting positive change and leadership at PLU in both the academic and co-curricular life of the university.


From typically over 600 applications, 125 President's Scholars will be selected to receive a $26,000
per year award.  Named President's Scholars will be invited to campus to interview February 22-23, 2019 for one of ten Harstad Founder's Scholarships ($31,000 per year)and one of five Regents' Scholarships (Full tuition). Those students offered a scholarship must reply to the offer by May 1, 2019.


*Please note: Presidential Scholarships awarded will replace any smaller PLU academic scholarship you may have previously received.

Eligibility:

  • Students with a 3.8+ GPA or 1310+ SAT (mathand evidence-based reading and writing  only) or 28+ ACT are encouraged to apply for these scholarships.
  • Evidence of outstanding leadership abilities as shown in the activities resume.
  • All scholarship materials, including the application for admission, must be submitted by the deadline of December 1.

The scholarship committee will review the following components:

  • Presidential Scholarship Application including the Activities, Leadership and Honors Resume.
  • Academic rigor and preparation.
  • Ability to formulate and express ideas clearly and effectively, as demonstrated in the essay.
  • Application for Admission.

Activities, Leadership and Honors Resume

The resume allows the scholarship committee to gain a better understanding of each applicant. Please list your activities and accomplishments, including the positions you held, honors awarded, and/or letters earned under the following categories:

  • General (Student Government, Clubs and Organizations, Employment, Music, Theatre, etc.)
  • Community and Religious Activities (Community Organizations, Church Youth Groups, etc.)
  • Any Additional Activities (including Travel, Entrepreneurship, etc.)

Essay

Please answer the following essay prompt in a Microsoft Word Document or PDF file and attach below.  You must include your full name, birthdate and email address on the top left corner of your essay. (Pages, Google Docs, or anything besides the requested Word Document or PDF file will not be accepted.)


The essay is required for consideration of the Presidential Scholarships. It should be of sufficient length to demonstrate your writing ability to the Scholarship Committee and to do justice to the topic:
