About:

At PLU, economics is about asking big questions — like how climate policy is shaped, what drives inflation, or how international trade impacts communities. You’ll explore the forces behind everything from everyday choices to global challenges.

You’ll gain tools to analyze real-world issues through micro- and macroeconomics, international and environmental economics, development, and trade. Your classes will sharpen your thinking, research, writing, and communication skills.

Outside the classroom, you can get involved in EconClub, connect with professionals through our alumni mentoring program, and prepare for careers in business, policy, law, and more. Economics at PLU helps you build a foundation that’s flexible, powerful, and relevant. The world needs people who can not only understand systems but rethink and rebuild them.

Skills you'll gain from this program:
  • Economic Analysis & Modeling — Learn to evaluate how markets, policies, and global systems work by applying models to real-world problems.
  • Data Analytics & Econometrics — Use statistical tools and software to collect, analyze, and interpret data, transforming complex numbers into insights that drive smart decisions.
  • Policy Evaluation & Research — Build the ability to assess the impact of laws, regulations, and programs on communities, businesses, and the environment.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving — Strengthen your reasoning skills to identify patterns, question assumptions, and craft creative, evidence-based solutions to social and economic challenges.
  • Professional Communication — Develop clear, persuasive writing and presentation skills to share your findings with audiences ranging from business leaders to policymakers.
