Welcome to the PLU AI Hub

At Pacific Lutheran University, we view Artificial Intelligence not just as a set of tools, but as an opportunity to deepen our commitment to Lutheran higher education. Our approach is rooted in AI Literacy rather than policing. We believe that by building our collective understanding of these technologies, we empower our students, faculty, and staff to lead lives of service and meaning in an evolving world. This central hub is the result of two AI Task Forces (2023 and 2025).

Our Guiding Principles

These principles serve as the lens through which we evaluate new technologies and integrate them into campus life. They ensure that AI serves to enhance our mission rather than detract from our human connections.
  • Human-Centered Approach & Critical Inquiry: AI should augment human capabilities, not replace them. We prioritize human judgment and the critical questioning of AI outputs.
  • Accuracy, Accountability, and Transparency: Users are 100% responsible for AI-generated content. We are committed to truth-seeking and clear disclosure.
  • Intellectual Freedom & Ethical Responsibility: We use AI strategically and ethically, respecting intellectual property and mitigating inherent biases.
  • Privacy, Data Security, and Stewardship: Protecting sensitive university and personal data is paramount. Secure, approved tools are the priority.
  • Vocation and Service: We explore AI applications that allow us to focus on higher-level tasks that serve the common good and the advancement of life.
A Note on Data Safety:
Never enter confidential, private, or proprietary PLU data into public AI models. When in doubt, contact I&TS or the Provost’s Office for guidance on secure usage.
