TACOMA, WASH. (Dec. 15, 2015)- Pacific Lutheran University’s 125th Anniversary Gala Christmas Concert will be broadcast on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day in the Greater Seattle and in Oregon television markets.

Pacific Lutheran University’s 125th Anniversary Gala Christmas Concert will be broadcast on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day in the Greater Seattle and in Oregon television markets.

For almost 90 years PLU’s Christmas concerts have served as a touring showcase of PLU’s prestigious music department, featuring performances by the Choir of the West, University Chorale and the University Symphony Orchestra. This year will be the first time the production will be broadcast, thanks to a partnership between PLU and Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB).

Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) affiliates OPB and KCTS 9 (Seattle-Tacoma) will broadcast the concert during primetime hours on Christmas Eve. Both stations will also re-air the broadcast three additional times, including at least once on Christmas Day (full schedule below).

The sold-out gala concert was headlined by New York-based Metropolitan Opera soprano and PLU alumna Angela Meade ’01, winner of the 2012 Beverly Sills Artist Award from the Metropolitan Opera and the 2011 Richard Tucker Award.

PLU’s 2015 Christmas concerts also served as the exclusive world premiere of prolific Hollywood film composer J.A.C. Redford’s A Christmas Invitation as well as PLU Professor of Music Gregory Youtz’s latest composition, “December: A Meditation on Advent.”

Staying true to PLU tradition, the concert also included traditional Christmas favorites and festive carols sung by the audience.
