Program Costs

Tuition for PLU’s MFA is “locked in” for six consecutively enrolled semesters, ensuring that the price remains constant as long as students maintain enrollment for that duration of the program.

MFA in Creative Writing

2026-27 Program Cost

$46,010

The program cost includes tuition for 44 credits and accommodation and meals for the four 10-day residencies (room and meals cannot be deducted from the program cost). Our cohort pricing means that as long as you are continuously enrolled in the program with your cohort for 3 years plus the final summer residency, the charges will not increase. Travel expenses and any other costs associated with the collaboratively-designed outside experience are not included.

Additional fees include: technology fee (e.g. online learning platforms, course sites, email and storage accounts) ($290/year) and wellness fee (e.g. virtual wellness options, accommodations, virtual consultations) ($120/year), a one-time matriculation fee ($225), books and materials for coursework.

Scholarships / Financial Aid

Scholarships

The $5,000 PLU Alumni Scholarship is a one-time scholarship automatically awarded in the first term of the program to graduate students who also earned their bachelor’s degree from PLU. (Restrictions apply to those students who are also PLU staff, and international scholarship recipients.)

Applicants who are not PLU alumni are automatically considered for this one-time merit scholarship, which, if awarded, will be applied to the first term of the program.

Financial Aid

Many graduate students finance their program through a combination of personal funds, educational loans, employer support (if eligible), military benefits (if eligible), and scholarships (institutional and/or outside).

We strongly recommend you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for federal education loans. PLU’s FAFSA school code is 003785.
