Christopher Seay

Chris is the Lecturer of Tuba at Pacific Lutheran University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate (D.M.A.) at the University of Washington, with previous education including applied performance at Oklahoma State University (M.M.) and music education from Western Carolina University (B.M./B.S.). He is an active freelance performer, including appearances with the Seattle Symphony, Spokane Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Ft. Smith Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, and Brevard Philharmonic. Chris has also collaborated on projects such as the Seattle Creative Horn Collective, Wayne Horvitz’s “What’s Going On” Music Festival, and the GRAMMY-nominated album by Aaron Lazar, Impossible Dream. He has earned semi-final placements with the Leonard Falcone Tuba & Euphonium International Competition and the International Tuba Euphonium Association’s (ITEA) international conference competitions.

As an educator, Chris is heavily involved with all age groups. His teaching ranges from coaching at Seattle Public Schools to obligations as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Assistant Conductor at the University of Washington. His collegiate teaching experience includes lecturing on music education, low brass pedagogy, chamber performance, as well as leading the University Band. His research contributions include presentations at UW, as well as ITEA’s regional conferences. Additionally, Chris is heavily involved with the marching arts, serving on the educational brass team for both the Santa Clara Vanguard and Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, the latter of which he performed and contributed to the brass winning the Jim Ott Brass Award at Drum Corps International’s World Championships as both an educator and performer.
