Scholarships and Fellowships
There are many national and international grants and awards for undergraduates and recent alumni to support and further their education. Typically these are external scholarships and fellowships funded by governments and private foundations.
Some awards support students during their undergraduate study; others are for 1-2 years of teaching, study, or internships after graduation. Examples of these programs include Udall Scholarship (for sophomores and juniors) and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program (for seniors/alums). Employers and graduate schools recognize these scholarships and fellowships as unique leadership, networking and skill building opportunities.
Scholarships and Fellowships will assist you in identifying the programs that fit your academic program of study and career aspirations, and for which you would be a viable candidate. Along with your faculty advisors, the Scholarships and Fellowships coordinator will guide and assist you through the application process. Some programs require the University to endorse a student’s application. For these programs, an institutional pre-screening (including an earlier deadline and/or on-campus interview) is required. The University is sometimes limited in the number of applications it can endorse.
The Office of Student Financial Services coordinates most of the University’s internal grants and awards. These include merit and need-based awards.
Financial support for study away is also available through PLU and external sources. Contact the Wang Center for information.
Contact PLU’s Office of Alumni and Student Connections (email@example.com) for information about short-term post-graduate service or work opportunities (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Lutheran Volunteer Corps).
Fellowships and grants are also available through Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Contact PLU’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter for more information.
