Dean Waldow's Research Group

Our research group also often supports an outreach activity with MESA [see their website] during my summer research program to help introduce high school and junior high students to chemistry with an emphasis in polymer science and soft materials. MESA students visit over the course of a day with additional activities also including college preparatory activities. We start with an overview of the activities the students will take part in. Then my undergraduate group members staff difference stations were students get hands on experience with polymers, forensics, cryogens, and chemical instrumentation. Recently more of the chemistry department as participated broadening he activities we have available. We have also added a nanoscience component with tours and demonstrations of our atomic force microscope. Below are a few photos from past outreach activities. I also have done demonstrations at elementary and middle schools from time to time.
