About

The PLU Hispanic & Latino Studies combines the study of the Spanish language with courses in Latin American, Latino, and Iberian literatures, linguistics, and cultural studies. Whether you are a heritage or second language learner, you’ll engage topics that include social justice struggles present and past, migration, race, gender, sexuality, memory, trauma, and the politics of language. The Hispanic & Latino Studies professors are well-known on campus for their genuine passion for teaching, active role as mentors, and advocacy for social change here in the US and abroad. You’ll have opportunities to participate in study away programs in Mexico, Spain, and Uruguay, as well as community-engaged learning in Latino/a/x communities right here in Parkland and Tacoma. And when you graduate, you’ll be equipped with the cultural competency and sensitivity to be an effective participant in the global community of the twenty-first century.
