New Anthropology course to be offered Spring 2027!

Dr. Akiko Nosaka, PLU’s cultural anthropologist, spent some of her time last year developing a new course titled, ANTH 389 Health and Disease – Biosocial Factors and Complexities, which will be offered in Spring 2027. This course is designed to introduce students to the biocultural, biosocial and environmental approaches to understanding human health and disease. Students will learn about various topics as applied to several contemporary and historical examples from parts of the world. Accordingly, students will learn how health and diseases are not only biological matters, but also involve cultural practices and beliefs, social structures (including of course inequality), and environmental conditions.
