‘Making Seafood Sustainable’
Mansel G. Blackford will be this year’s speaker for the Ninth Annual Dale E. Benson Lecture in Business and Economic history at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Anderson University Center.
Blackford, Emeritus Professor of History at the Ohio State University, will speak on “Making Seafood Sustainable: American Experiences in Global Perspectives.”
Blackford has taught at OSU for the past 28 years and has received numerous honors and awards, including two Senior Fulbright Lectureships in Japan. There he taught American history, comparative business history and American studies at Hiroshima University and two other universities in Fukuoka.
In 2003, OSU named Blackford the Exemplary Faculty Member for the College of Humanities in recognition of his distinguished and sustained achievements in teaching, research and service.

In 2005, the Ohio Academy of History named Mansel, “The Distinguished Historian in Ohio for 2005.”
Most recently, the Business History Conference awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award, given to a scholar who has contributed significantly to scholarship in business history.
Blackford has written 13 books and published 36 articles and papers on American small business, entrepreneurship, and Pacific Rim business in Japan, China and Maui.
He earned his B.A. from Stanford University, an M.A. from the University of Washington and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
