TACOMA, WASH. (May 11, 2015)- Throughout its 125-year history, Pacific Lutheran University has continuously sought to convene curious minds beyond the confines of its campus and extend the opportunity to participate in its classrooms to non-degree-seeking students.

Historically, this value has been reflected in the university’s commitment to international studies. In 2009, PLU became the first university ever to have students studying simultaneously on all seven continents.

Summer 2015 will mark the next step in PLU’s efforts to diversify the entry points into its classrooms. The university will offer its first online courses. This summer’s online courses will be offered for just a quarter of the cost per-credit of traditional school year courses.

“Our focus is on students, and providing a high-quality and personalized learning experience that extends beyond the walls of our campus to the digital world,” said Associate Professor of History Michael Halvorson.

All PLU summer courses, including online courses, are open to non-matriculated students, meaning that any learner can register by filling out the online registration form.

Most summer courses are scheduled in one of two four-week terms (June 1-27 & June 29-July 25). Each term includes both general education and major-specific courses.

The 17 courses being offered online this summer represent nearly every one of the university’s academic divisions. Offerings include courses on watercolor painting, Chinese and Spanish language studies, microeconomics, music and much more.

Registration for the 2015 Summer Session for both traditional and non-matriculated students is now open.
