Biography
Abby Deskins joined PLU in 2023 as the Senior Administrative Assistant and Coordinator of Educational Outreach Programs. Born and raised from the Pacific Northwest, Abby graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts and Communication with a Business Concentration. Her experience in facilitating highly engaging community events aids her in her role to promote connection and interest in the school. Service oriented, she is thrilled to continue to support the success of the leadership and students by bringing resourcefulness and creativity to create a healthy office environment.
Personal interests include coordinating community events and discovering new areas to explore with her husband and dog. A passionate gardener, Abby volunteers for the Orcas Island Garden Club as the Communications Chair and Newsletter Editor. She is also a volunteer for the Tacoma Tree Foundation, often planting trees throughout neighborhoods across Tacoma and the surrounding areas. Committed to the arts from an early age, Abby appreciates all varieties of dance. As a child, Abby attended Pacific Northwest Ballet School where she performed in multiple productions of The Nutcracker. As a team captain for both high school and college dance performance teams, she has learned the value of respecting diversity and integrity. These leadership roles have provided a developmental opportunity to hone skills on creating vision for teams, inspiring others, and fostering collaboration. She continues today to learn new skills by advising the PLU Dance Team and performing as an aerial hoop Lyra performer.
