Theatre

Welcome to Theatre at Pacific Lutheran University! We offer four degrees and two minors in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance under the College of Professional Studies.

Theatre at Pacific Lutheran University provides opportunities in acting, musical theatre, directing, design, technology, stage management, playwriting, improvisation, and more! We have an active student-centered season, producing up to 10 shows every year: about half directed by students. Students receive academic credit for their participation in all faculty directed shows. Student organizations housed within the department offer opportunities throughout the year and we bring in professional guests artists to forge valuable connections for our students.

Our program

Students have opportunities to perform in our plays, large-scale musical, musical revues, and dance concerts,  in addition to improv performances and other opportunities. First year students may be cast immediately and can audition for as many productions as they wish.

Transitioning students to the profession is important to us.  We therefore offer courses such as The Profession of Theatre, Theatre Management, and Capstone to help students learn about the profession and develop their portfolios. We also have internship opportunities with local theatres to support student learning and to provide additional professional opportunities.

Please contact Chair of Theatre & Dance, Amanda Sweger, at swegeran@plu.edu to learn more about our program.
