Academic Standing

What is Academic Probation?

Academic probation is a status of Academic Standing in which students are below a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Cumulative GPA is the total GPA average of all of your semesters at PLU.

How does one get on Academic Probation?

If a student earns below a 2.0 GPA in their first semester, they are placed on Academic Probation. If a student earns below a 2.0 cumulative GPA after their first semester, they are placed on Academic Probation.

What happens when you are on Academic Probation?

When a student is on Academic Probation, they will be dismissed from PLU if they fail, withdraw, or incomplete a class. Students on Academic Probation cannot participate in university athletics because NCAA standards require that all students are in Good Academic Standing to participate in sports.

How do you know if you're on probation?

You’ll receive an email from the Registrar notifying you of your Academic Standing. This email is usually sent a few weeks after final grades have been submitted by your faculty members.

What is Academic Warning?

Academic Warning is a level of Academic Standing wherein students are in danger of being moved to Academic Probation.

How does one get on Academic Warning?

Students move from Academic Probation to Academic Warning after either completing the instructions set by the CSS (for first term students only) or by bringing their cumulative GPA up to a 2.0

What happens when you are on Academic Warning?

If a student is on Academic Warning and they fail, withdraw, or incomplete a class then they move to Academic Probation. While in Academic Probation, students are in danger of being dismissed from PLU.

An Academic Dismissal means that you have been dismissed from PLU and can no longer continue taking classes. You are automatically withdrawn from all future registered classes. There is an appeal process, which is detailed in the email you received notifying you that you have been dismissed. Follow the steps in the email to appeal.
