Amy Siegesmund

I am a Professor of Biology at PLU with expertise in microbiology, immunology, and cell biology.  In my teaching, I focus not only on teaching the content of my discipline but on creating a classroom community where students bring their whole selves to engage and learn.  My current research interests are student challenges, student sense of belonging, metacognition, and self-regulated learning.

I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Eastern Caribbean (St. Lucia) from 2023-2025 stationed as Literacy Resource Specialist in an elementary school.  My primary foci were small group literacy instruction, revitalization of the school library, and creating literacy teaching resources and materials for teachers.
