A Bonhoeffer Moment
Two renowned Dietrich Bonhoeffer scholars will join in presenting a special lecture event in August.
The Rev. Dr. Renate Wind from Heidelberg, Germany will speak on the theme “Bonhoeffer: The Man, the Myth, and the Martyr” and Rev. Dr. Mark Brocker of Portland will present “For Love of the World: Bonhoeffer’s Theology of Resistance and of Hope”.
Lectures will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. in Chris Knutzen Hall in the Anderson University Center at Pacific Lutheran University.
Co-sponsored by Pacific Lutheran University and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, there will be a reception hosted by PLTS Rector Ray Pickett at both events which are free to the public.

About the speakers
Renate Wind is a Lutheran pastor who served as professor of biblical theology and church history at the evangelical university in Nurenberg. She is a well-known Bonhoeffer scholar and was awarded the prestigious German “Evangelical Book Award” in 1993 for her landmark biography, Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Spoke in the Wheel. Dr. Wind has lectured extensively in Europe and North America; and has recently published her newest book, Being Christian in the Empire: Following Jesus as Vision of Another World.
Mark Brocker is the lead pastor at St. Andrews Lutheran in Beaverton and past president of the International Bonhoeffer Society. He has taught courses in theology and ethics at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Brocker’s doctoral dissertation was on Bonhoeffer’s ethics of responsibility. He was the volume editor for Conspiracy and Imprisonment: 1940-1945, volume 16 of Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works and co-editor for Ecumenical, Academic and Pastoral Work: 1931-1932, and Theological Education at Finkenwalde: 1935-1937. He is the author of the book Coming Home to Earth.
