Admission Requirements
Select the certificate program of your interest to see its specific admission requirements.
To be eligible for admission to the Post-Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nurse Practitioner, applicants are required to meet the following requirements:
- A current Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license in the United States or its territories.
- A current Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification.
- Current, unencumbered WA State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license, or eligible to obtain WA State licensure with prescriptive authority per current WA state Department of Health regulations.
- Completion of the following prerequisites
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Pediatric Life Support
- Basic Life Support
- Primary Care Procedures (preferred at time of application) or attend the Primary Care workshop at PLU prior to the start of the program
To be eligible for admission to the Post-Graduate Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner, applicants are required to meet the following requirements:
- Current, unencumbered WA State RN License, or WA Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) Certification.
- If you have an ARNP certification, completion of a master’s degree or above from a nationally-accredited school of nursing.
- If you have a RN license, completion of a doctoral degree in any field from a nationally-accredited school.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (B) on a 4.00 scale for all college work.
- Official transcripts from each college and university attended.
- Professional résumé.
- Statement of professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- Civil, administrative and criminal history clearance in all states as well as any other applicable territory or country.
- Fluency in speaking, reading, writing and comprehending graduate-level English
To be eligible for admission to the Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, applicants are required to meet the following requirements:
- Current, unencumbered WA State RN License, or WA Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) Certification.
- If you have an ARNP certification, completion of a master’s degree or above from a nationally-accredited school of nursing.
- If you have a RN license, completion of a doctoral degree in any field from a nationally-accredited school.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (B) on a 4.00 scale for all college work.
- Official transcripts from each college and university attended.
- Professional résumé.
- Statement of professional goals.
- Two letters of recommendation.

Graduate Level Course Transferability
If you have completed graduate-level nursing courses and would like to know if they can be accepted to meet the DNP degree competencies, you may submit a Gap Analysis Request with copies of your transcripts and syllabi prior to applying.
This is not a required step for applying to the program. The processing time depends on the volume of received requests. We cannot guarantee to complete the gap analysis before the application deadline. However, if you are admitted to the program, a gap analysis will be processed.
