Biography
Ari Grubb (he/they) is an interdisciplinary artist, animator, and director based in Tacoma, Washington. Identifying from a young age as a puppeteer, storyteller, and performer, Ari’s work ranges from stop motion animation, sculpture, illustration, film, and anything in between. While varying in scale, style, and medium, all of Ari’s work comes from the desire to tell stories, and whether through animated film, interactive sculpture, or playful illustration, Ari relies on charming characters and a fantastical color palette to lure in viewers, and rewards those that take the time to uncover the hidden narratives.
Ari’s professional animation work includes collaborations with the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Watertown, MA, PokeGravy Studios, Tiny Siren Studios, FableVision Studios, MassOpera, Arts By the People, and the National YoungArts Foundation. Ari has also collaborated with artists such as public artist and inventor Rufus Butler Seder, filmmaker Georgia Usborne, and experimental animator and projection designer Christine Banna. Ari also has professional credits as a Background Clean Artist on FOX’s animated show Housebroken.
Ari Grubb holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and received his BFA in Animation and Motion Media from Lesley University’s College of Art and Design. He currently holds a position as Assistant Professor of Digital Media in Animation at Pacific Lutheran University.
