Auditioning for PLU's BFA programs

Students wishing to audition for admittance into one of our three Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree programs should prepare the following:

BFA – Acting/Directing: a 60 second contemporary monologue (memorized), a head shot, and an acting resume.

BFA – Design/Technical: a 3-5 page portfolio of photos or paperwork with descriptions of your design/technical/stage management work and a theatre resume.

BFA – Musical Theatre: a 30-60 second contemporary monologue (memorized), 16-32 bars (preferably a verse and a chorus) of a Broadway showtune (please provide your own accompaniment on your phone or another player), a head shot, and an acting resume.

Students may apply for more than one BFA track but must provide separate audition materials. Interviews will be held with all auditioners.

Auditions for our BFA programs happen concurrently with our Artistic Achievement Awards (scholarships).  Additionally, students may audition through the Washington State Thespian Unified auditions and the Oregon State Thespian Unified auditions and we also accept video auditions sent to theatre-dance@plu.edu through May 1. After this date, students may apply during their first semester at PLU.

There are no auditions necessary for our Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre or our Theatre and Dance minors.

If you have questions about our BFA auditions or programs, please contact Department Chair Amanda Sweger at swegeran@plu.edu.
