Major Monday: New Dual-Degree Engineering Partnership with Washington State University
We’re thrilled to announce a new formal partnership with Washington State University (WSU) to add to PLU’s well-established Dual-Degree Engineering program.

Starting this fall, the collaboration between PLU and WSU allows students to earn two Bachelor’s degrees in five years – one in Physics (PLU – 3 years) and one in Mechanical Engineering (WSU – 2 years). Students who complete the required major courses and maintain a 2.6+ GPA at PLU will be guaranteed admission into WSU’s Mechanical Engineering program.
“I’m so excited about the PLU-WSU Dual Degree Engineering partnership. Students get the best of both worlds: at PLU, a strong foundation in physics, math, and the liberal arts in small classes where they get to know their professors and fellow students, combined with WSU’s excellent training in mechanical engineering in a collaborative and innovative environment. This is such an incredible opportunity and brings added value for any student interested in a well-rounded engineering education.”

This adds a third option for students interested in Engineering – for many years, PLU has also had formal 3-2 Engineering agreements with Columbia University in New York City and Washington University in St. Louis.
Washington State University was a natural fit for the dual-degree partnership. As a respected regional leader in engineering with strong ties to Pacific Northwest industries, WSU provides exceptional technical education that builds on the critical thinking, communication, and ethical reasoning skills developed at PLU. The result? Graduates who are prepared to lead, design, and innovate in today’s complex world.
This program also supports PLU’s commitment to access and affordability. Students who qualify for Washington’s College Grant or who are part of the 253 PLU Bound program can transfer their state-based financial aid with them to WSU, making this an accessible option for students who want to remain in-state and close to their communities.
We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of future engineers to this exciting new opportunity!
