You Ask, We Answer: How does PLU support students from different faith backgrounds?

As an international student from Pakistan and proud Muslim, I arrived at PLU hoping I would find spaces where my faith, culture, and values could feel understood. What I discovered was a campus that not only welcomes students from diverse traditions but actively creates opportunities for us to learn from one another.
Working with Campus Ministry has shown me just how intentional PLU is about supporting students of all backgrounds. Whether someone identifies with a specific tradition, is exploring spirituality, or doesn’t practice a religion at all, there’s space for them to show up fully. Our monthly Gathering Tables are one of my favorite examples. I help plan and facilitate these conversations, and it’s powerful to watch students, faculty, and staff from different worldviews talk openly about topics like prayer, forgiveness, spiritual wellbeing and community. No one is expected to “fit” a mold. Your story is welcomed exactly as it is.
This year, I also had the opportunity to organize an interfaith iftar on campus during Ramadan. Students, staff, and faculty from across traditions came together to share a meal, learn from one another, and celebrate community. At PLU, students aren’t just supported, they’re empowered to lead, create, and shape interfaith communities in ways that feel meaningful to them.
